Shirley (Vilma Santos) is a woman who wants to be in control of everything. Working as a librarian in a public school, a firm “Sshhh!” from her would make students tremble in fear. But in her family, her unwarranted intervention in her children’s lives and families keeps her emotionally detached from them. Realizing that she has lost the command she once had, she goes to New York to reunite with Mark (Luis Manzano), her estranged gay son. But Shirley doesn’t know that her son is living in with Noli (John Lloyd Cruz), an illegal immigrant. Whenever Mark is not around, Noel makes it a point to tour her around as he tries his best to endure Shirley’s degrading behavior on him. Everything is going right until Mark’s untimely death forces Shirley to go back to the Philippines. Now that she’s back with her family, she realizes that something is wrong – she is not happy. For once in her life, she finally comes to a brave decision that will bring her real happiness. Despite all the uncertainties, Shirley goes back to New York to reclaim the joyful life she once had.
