Coco Martin and Jodi Sta. Maria, two of ABS-CBN's most bankable stars, are teaming up for the first time in the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry, "Labyu with an Accent"!

Just like their fans, the two stars are just as excited to work with each other in the upcoming romance-comedy to be directed by Coco himself. In the film's story conference held on Wednesday, September 7, the two gushed about how much they're looking forward to their first project together.

“Ako, honestly, sobrang excited kasi napakapalad ng lahat ng nakakatrabaho ni Jodi kasi isa siyang napakahusay na artista,” said Coco of his leading lady.

Echoing the actor's sentiments, Jodi said, “Sobrang grateful ko na mapabilang sa proyektong ito. Syempre, katrabaho si Coco Martin. Hindi ko lang siya leading man dito, first time na makakatrabaho ko siya bilang director and sobra akong excited na ma-direk ng isang Coco Martin na alam naman natin na napakataba ng utak, napakagaling na aktor."

Coco said their upcoming film is also their way of giving back to their fans who showed their support for both of their successful series, "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano" and "The Broken Marriage Vow", which both concluded earlier this year.

"Labyu with an Accent" will follow the story of Gabo and Trisha, played by Coco and Jodi, two people of entirely different backgrounds and whose paths will cross when the latter goes home to the Philippines from the United States.

Jodi described her character as someone who had been living in the US for 20 years, while Coco's character is someone who grew up in the Philippines juggling different jobs to make ends meet.

"One day, itong dalawang taong 'to, na sobrang magkaiba ng background, pagsasamahin mo. Ang tanong: ano ang mangyayari sa kanilang dalawa?" the actress teased.

“Hopefully, makita ng mga tao 'yung realidad ng buhay. Meron 'tong kilig, meron 'tong katatawanan. Higit sa lahat, meron itong puso, sobrang laking puso,” she added.

More than the fun and kilig the movie brings, the actor-director said it will also take the viewers on a virtual tour to the most beautiful places in the US.

"Pinapangako namin sa pelikula na 'to, dahil matagal-tagal tayong nakulong sa ating mga bahay, ipapasyal namin kayo," he said.

"Bibigyan namin kayo ng magandang kwento at mga eksena na masarap panoorin. Kasi kung hindi man kayo makalabas ng bansa, ito masisiguro niyo na malilibot niyo ang buong Amerika," he added.

“Labyu with an Accent” marks Coco's return to the highly anticipated film festival. It is one of Star Cinema’s this MMFF 2022 along with Vice Ganda and Ivana Alawi’s “Partners in Crime”.
