5 of Rico Yan’s most iconic roles on the big screen!

There’s not a day when we don’t miss the charming and talented Rico Yan. But as we look on the brighter side of things and celebrate his legacy, we stay grateful for his iconic films that we enjoy watching over and over.

It was in the late ‘90s when Rico became a household name with his preppy boy-next-door energy and moreno heartthrob look. Rico’s acting prowess shone all the more when he got paired alongside screen darling, Judy Ann Santos, and his reel-to-real life girlfriend, Claudine Barretto. And up to this day, amid all the viral TikTok clips and trending YouTube videos, Rico never lost his appeal to the masses.

As long as we still have movies to remember him by, we will always stan the one and only Rico Yan. Scroll through the list below to see some of our favorite characters he had played on the big screen:

Jason in “Paano Ang Puso Ko?” (1997)

If you would ever be in a love triangle, better hope that you would not have to fight against a free-spirited and loving character like Rico Yan’s. As Jason, Rico portrayed a man who goes hard after the woman he loves (Judy Ann Santos) even if his cousin (Wowie de Guzman) also has feelings for her.

Joel in “Flames: The Movie” (1997)

Rico continued to prove that a leading man role is what he’s destined to play. His character Joel, a simple delivery boy, brought kilig to our screens as he fights for his place in Karina’s (Claudine Barretto) life.

Miguel in “Dahil Mahal na Mahal Kita” (1998)

Miguel isn’t an all too lovable character: at times, his holier-than-thou attitude clashes with how sweet he looks on the outside. But it’s also impossible to not like him, especially when Rico injected his own charm into making Miguel an ultimate lover boy. No wonder why Mela (Claudine Barretto) likes him so much!

Alex in “Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay” (1998)

When Rico reunited with Judy Ann in this 1998 romance flick, it was definitely a treat for their fans to see a different side to them! Here, Rico gave life to Alex, an aspiring restaurateur who falls in love with a breadwinner named Ana (Judy Ann).

Lorenz in “Got 2 Believe” (2002)

This project was Rico’s last film before he passed away on March 29, 2002. Rico starred alongside his girlfriend of four years, Claudine, in this rom-com classic that tackles destiny, relationships, and happy endings in the best way.
