Fridays are now made sweeter by the newest ABS-CBN anthology “Love Bites”, a YouTube-exclusive series that spotlights real-life romance stories in bite-sized narratives.
During the show’s media conference held on September 14, 18 of the series’ cast members gave a glimpse of what’s in store in this “Made For YouTube” project, featuring LGBTQ+ relationships, online dating, TOTGA or “the one that got away”, love triangles, astrology, and long-time sweethearts, among others.
For their respective episode “Hearts of Pride”, Kapamilya talents Angela Trajano and Kristof Garcia will bring focus into what it means for a transgender person to love and be loved.
As a transgender woman in real life, Angela could not hide her joy and excitement that these kinds of stories are now being represented on mainstream media.
“As a transgender, it’s really rare for us to be seen in acting, in shows. So para sa akin, sobrang napaka-meaningful nito and I was given the chance by Direk Dado (Lumibao) so ginawa ko lahat ng best ko talaga dito,” she enthused.
According to Angela, loving a transgender person is no different from loving any other human being regardless of gender.
“Love is boundless. Love is very genuine. Love knows no gender. So it’s time for now that we could change and apply our diversity and, at the same time, recognize our existence. That we are also human, that we could love and we could be someone worth fighting for,” she said.
As Angela’s partner in this episode, Kristof shared that getting to know the trans actress and delving into the plot made him excited for their pairing.
“Noong una, parang na-ilang pero ‘yung nakilala ko si Angela tapos nabasa ko ‘yung story, sobrang na-excite ako. Napalitan ‘yung ng excitement kasi first time kong magkakaroon ng partner na transgender at same lang. Same lang with a natural woman. Kinilala ko rin talaga si Angela at napakabait niyang tao,” he said.
Aside from the two, Sky Quizon, Nico Santos, Kristoff Garcia, Concon Felix, and Kyzha Villalino will also star in two other episodes centered on the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community.
Not only is there enough queer content to chew over on “Love Bites”, there is also ample space to tackle love in the digital realm!
Karina Bautista and Gello Marquez team up as Gen Z youngsters who formed their genuine connection through the social media site Twitter in the episode “One Tweet Away”.
“Hindi natin alam kung gaano ka-powerful ang isang tweet na ganun. Sabi nga nila, hindi mo malalaman kung hindi mo susubukan,” Gello spoke of their online arc.
When asked if either of them has tried online dating, Karina and Gello admitted that they have not found a romantic bond through social media or apps.
“Hindi ko kasi alam kung paano matatawag na date kapag sa social media. Pero yeah, may mga tao naman akong nakilala through social media, pero I wouldn’t say dating someone. Siguro makikilala mo on social media then makikilala mo in person,” Gello explained.
Meanwhile, Karina shared, “I haven’t tried using dating apps but I have nothing against it naman. And I think I’ve found a lot of friends on social media because of these apps. Nag-gain ako ng sobrang daming connections from all over the world. And actually, ‘pag nakaka-relate ako sa isang tao, mahilig naman ako mag-reply sa mga stories nila and doon nagsisimula ‘yung mga conversations namin. It’s a really good conversation starter.”
Contrary to Karina and Gello’s characters, Dimples’ and Miko’s roles in “Letters for Leah” make the perfect pair in a story relevant to “people of age.”
“Ang ganda kasi nung kwento nina Allan at ni Leah,” Dimples offered a sneak peek. “Meron kasi tayong notion na ang pagmamahal, you always have to be together. But here comes Lea and Allan who both are telling us na pwedeng magkaroon ng pagmamahal na somewhere out there, merong taong nagmamahal sa ‘yo.”
She added, “They’re redefining love and defying space and distance and time. And somehow, para sa kanilang dalawa, naka-suspend ‘yun. Isn’t that one of the most romantic kinds of love? Na alam mo lang may nagmamahal sa ‘yo somewhere out there and maybe, just maybe, if the timing is right, you’ll find one another again.”
If there’s one piece of advice Miko could offer to the younger generation, it’s this: “Just be yourself. And then when you find a partner, just show whoever you really are. You don’t have to hide anything kasi mamahalin ka nung isang tao na ‘yun for who you are really, hindi ‘yung pinapakita mo sa social media.”
Directed by director Dado C. Lumibao, “Love Bites” streams every Friday at 8 PM beginning September 16 only on YouTube!
