Janella Salvador channels villainess character Valentina in Metro cover

Janella Salvador is every bit of a stunner in her newest digital cover for Metro, where she channeled her villainess character Valentina from the hit primetime series “Mars Ravelo’s Darna".

In a series of photos uploaded by Metro magazine on Tuesday, August 30, the "U-Turn" actress showed her fierce and sultry side in various black outfits that very much resemble the feistiness of the serpent queen she'll soon portray in the series.

Currently, viewers have only seen Janella as the lawyer-vlogger Regina Vanguardia in the show, Valentina's alter ego. In the cover story of Metro.Style, the 24-year-old actress talked about portraying the character which she described as a “kontrabida with a heart”, the very first time she actually played the role of a villain in her decade-long career.

“She’s actually a very, very complex character to play,” she admitted. “She has a lot of emotions. Ang dami niyang pinagdaanan... As much as I’m having fun portraying her, mahirap siyang i-portray kasi ang daming layers. Pinag-aralan ko talaga ’yan."

“I love her character,” she continued. “She’s larger than life, she’s very assertive, she’s smart, she’s a lawyer-slash-vlogger and she loves fashion. She’s very rich. It’s very new for me to play a role like Regina. And I’m having a lot of fun.”

In terms of how she prepared for both the roles of Regina and Valentina, Janella said it actually took her a lot of physical preparation to make sure each role is distinct from one another.

“I actually changed her voice,” said Janella. “Gusto ko maiba talaga si Valentina kay Regina, so I did a lot of physical changes. Iniba ko ’yung voice ko, even the look is super far from Regina. I don’t know if meron kaming similarities; lumalabas si Valentina kasi ’pag sobrang galit si Regina,” she teased.

Prior to her cover, Metro also featured Jane De Leon in a Darna-inspired photoshoot, along with a separate photo of her donning the iconic red and gold costume.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Chito S. Roño with Avel Sunpongco and Benedict Mique, “Mars Ravelo’s Darna” airs weeknights on TV5, A2Z, Kapamilya Channel, CineMo, Kapamilya Online Live, iWantTFC, and TFC.
