Cherie Gil’s family has officially released a statement following the death of the veteran actress, confirming that she succumbed to a rare type of endometrial cancer.
Raphael Rogoff, one of the late actress' children, posted their official statement on his Instagram page on Sunday, August 7.
In the lengthy post, their family expressed gratitude to everyone who extended their love and concern for his mom, while also sharing some details about her condition before passing.
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce that Cherie passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 5th, at 4:48 a.m. EST after a brave battle against cancer,” the statement read.
Cherie was diagnosed with a rare form of endometrial cancer in October of last year after deciding to relocate to New York City to be closer to her children. She then underwent treatment at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York," it added.
The statement also disclosed that it was Cherie's decision to keep her diagnosis private, which her family supported.
Cherie fought bravely against her illness, with grace and strength," it continued. "Despite her struggles she always managed to exude courage and never lost her trademark sass, wit, and infectious humor, or her larger-than-life personality. She spent her last days surrounded by family and loved ones."
While we are deeply saddened by our loss and still mourning her passing, we are incredibly moved by the outpouring of love and support for her and our family; evidence of just how many lives Cherie touched," it added.
Their family then humbly asked Cherie's friends and supporters to send any memory, message, or regards, which they can view in private to celebrate "her life, work, and legacy."
In the end, there are no words – only love. Cherie lived with all her heart," the statement concluded.
On Instagram Stories, Raphael also shared some of the precious moments she had with his mom, including some throwback photos of them together, and a photo of him with the late siblings, Cherie and Mark Gil.
In a separate Instagram post, Cherie's brother Michael de Mesa also posted the statement on his Instagram, while sharing a photo of his sister.
The actress' niece Andi Eigenmann also posted the same statement, as she also looked back at the memories she shared with her aunt on Instagram Stories.
In one photo, the actress-vlogger shared how much Cherie inspired her to live her authentic self.
Meanwhile, Andi’s brother Gabby, posted a series of throwback photos of their late dad Mark with his aunt, as he mourned her loss.
“Posting these pics is so hard.. you guys are together again. I love you with all my heart.. Thank you Lord for sharing them with us.. I love you TITA,” he wrote in the caption of his post.
Cherie's death was first revealed to the public by Annabelle Rama on Friday, August 5, who opted not to disclose the cause of her death in a tweet and simply asked for prayers.
