6 Star Cinema couples who started out as best friends!

Some would say that finding romance and friendship in the same person is one of the best things in the world. While love can bloom in any circumstance, there’s no doubt that we all want to feel closest to the person we want to build a future with.

To that point, we’ve gathered a list of Star Cinema couples whose love stories began in an unfiltered way: by being best friends. The journey was definitely not all sunshine and rainbows: it can get very complicated when someone you’ve viewed as a platonic partner suddenly confesses their deepest feelings. But the rainbow after the rain comes when you’ve finally answered: could we be something more after all?

“Labs Kita... Okey Ka Lang?” (1998)

Bujoy (Jolina Magdangal) knows what it feels like to be loved by someone who appreciates her despite her flaws. The problem is, that person, her best friend Ned (Marvin Agustin), doesn’t reciprocate those feelings… well not yet, at least. Timing may not be on Bujoy and Ned’s side at first, but once their hearts start to beat the same way, the sky’s the limit for their love story!

“Close to You” (2006)

Much like the first couple in this list, Manuel (John Lloyd) and Marian (Bea Alonzo) have been best friends since they were young. While Manuel has always harbored a crush on Marian, sadly she has her eyes on somebody else. When Marian seems to get the happy ending she wants, it’s up to Manuel to decide if he’ll pursue her or let her be.

“All About Love” (2006)

The last time Kikay (Angelica Panganiban) and Kiko (Jason Abalos) saw each other was when they were kids. Despite the distance and time apart, their friendship blossomed into love once Kikay found her way back to their hometown where Kiko lives.

“Paano Na Kaya” (2010)

Even though Mae (Kim Chiu) is hopelessly in love with her best friend Bogs (Gerald Anderson), she still acts as his wingman to get him a girlfriend. After Bogs gets heartbroken by the girl he’s chased after, Mae went from being a shoulder to cry on into being a hand to hold.

“She's the One” (2013)

Another case of is-it-too-late romance is Cat (Bea Alonzo) and Wacky’s (Dingdong Dantes) history. Without the other person knowing, Cat and Wacky have loved each other as more than friends. It was not until David (Enrique Gil) entered the picture that they finally acted on their feelings.

“Love Is Color Blind” (2021)

Coming back from Hong Kong, Cara (Belle Mariano) is happy to reconnect with her best friend Ino (Donny Pangilinan), whom she’s always been in love with. While Ino faces personal hardships, Cara seeks to prop him up and be a source of hope for him. But seeing Ino get close with a different girl puts Cara in an awkward position: should she fight for Ino’s love or not?
