With her thriving career, blissful romance, and booming business, it's safe to say that Pia Wurtzbach is at her happiest phase right now.
In an episode of their podcast "Between Us Queens" released last August 12, the Miss Universe 2015 titleholder opened up to her fellow queens, Carla Lizardo and Bianca Guidotti, about the struggles she went through before getting her break in pageantry and showbiz.
"Sometimes, when I'm alone, like when I'm home and just looking around at my place, I remember my old apartments or where we used to live as a family before noong walang-wala kami," she shared. "What our bathroom used to look like, and what the neighborhood was like, and how I would never even step out of the gate due to the fear for my safety."
"Knowing that I was able to take care of myself this way, makes me feel very proud because nobody took care of me," she pressed.
While she acknowledged the help her mom and sister gave her, the "My Perfect You" actress takes pride in all the risks she took by herself that paved the way for her success.
"I can't say that anybody really took care of me. I mean, of course my mom did, of course my sister did, but I also had a big role taking care of them and then also trying to pursue a dream, risking everything while doing it tapos I'm broke pa," she said.
Looking back at all this, Pia can say everything is just worth it. "The risk and everything — the challenges, the failures, kahihiyan, all that — it doesn't even pain me anymore right now. Because naalagaan ko 'yung sarili ko, eh. What I have now is not because of what my parents have given me; you know, coming from being comfortable and suddenly my parents separating, and with the whole pageant and artista journey, all that, to now, I'm proud of that," she affirmed.
