Binibining Pilipinas hosts Catriona Gray and Nicole Cordoves made clear that there was no mix-up in the winners announced during the Binibining Pilipinas coronation night held on Sunday, July 31.
In a statement released by the Miss Universe 2018 on Instagram yesterday, August 1, she clarified some issues after netizens noticed that there was a delay in the announcement of the winner for the Miss International title, speculating that they might have a wrong name for the title.
Shortly after the huddle on stage, Nicole Borromeo of Cebu was crowned as Bb. Pilipinas International.
"As the hosts of last night’s Binibining Pilipinas 2022, @binibiningnicolecordoves and I announced the winners accordingly based on the titles printed on the individual title cards as these were handed over by SGV & Co. partner and representative, Mr. Ocho," Catriona began her statement.
"As a member of the overseeing committee during the deliberations (as pictured on slide 4 by BPCI Execom member @laraquigaman), Mr. Ocho later rechecked the cards and confirmed that the results previously announced were correct, which became the decisive factor in moving forward with the announcement," she furthered.
Being both former candidates themselves, the hosts said they know how it feels to be in the shoes of the candidates, hence, doing what needs to be done if they indeed made some mix-up.
"We understand what the girls go through and would, therefore—without a second thought—correct any errors, if any were made. But as already explained, SGV & Co. partner and representative Mr. Ocho himself confirmed the validity of the results," she explained.
Catriona ended her post by expressing her pride and excitement for the newly crowned queens' upcoming journeys.
"Let's celebrate our Queens who are wearing their rightful crowns.Congratulations to our new @bbpilipinasofficial Queens! I'm so excited to witness your journeys and I know you will make our country proud!!" she wrote.
Apart from Nicole, other queens who were crowned were Gabrielle Camille Basiano of Samar as Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental; Chelsea Fernandez of Tacloban City as Bb. Pilipinas Globe; and Roberta Angela Tamondong of San Pablo Laguna as Bb. Pilipinas Grand International.
Meanwhile, Herlene Budol and Stacey Gabriel, who are both from Rizal, were declared as first and second runners-up, respectively.
