Ruffa Gutierrez revealed that she has forgiven her ex-husband Yilmaz Bektas, which is why she felt “at peace” with sending her daughters Lorin and Venice to reunite with him a month ago for the first time in 15 years.
In an interview with celebrity doctor Dr. Vicki Belo, the “The House Arrest Of Us” actress shared the current state of her heart and her relationship with Yilmaz since their separation in 2007.
“I guess time heals all wounds and I guess in God’s perfect time, I think it just came naturally already,” she told Dr. Vicki.
Ruffa admitted that in the past, she wasn’t comfortable with the idea of Lorin and Venice seeing their father in Turkey.
“At that point in my life, I was very afraid. I was scared because of what happened sa paghihiwalay namin and hindi mo ‘ko mabe-blame kasi gusto ko naman na maging safe ako, maging safe ‘yung mga bata. But I didn’t realize that it’s been 15 years,” she said.
“Feeling ko ‘yung mga bata, dala-dala nila ‘yung pain na ‘yun, not being able to see their dad. They grew up without a dad. Even if my dad is there, it’s really different. They feel like they’ve been abandoned,” she added.
Describing their reunion as “three years in the making,” Ruffa explained, “Everytime we would try to set something up, we would end up fighting over the phone.”
When asked if she has forgiven Yilmaz, Ruffa didn’t hesitate to give a positive response.
“A long time ago. I’ve forgiven him. If I was fearful, then I wouldn’t send them. I sent Lorin and Venice on their own to Istanbul. I just felt really light about it. I prayed about it. And I said, ‘God, if this is the right timing that Lorin and Venice should reunite with Yilmaz, give me a sign.’ And I think the sign is just being comfortable, being light, being at peace. I didn’t have any hesitations. Para sa akin, ‘yun na ‘yung sign na hinahanap ko,” she detailed.
So what does this mean for Ruffa’s love life? Well, the “The Mall, The Merrier” actress asserted that she “doesn’t need to be with a man” but she also has faith that she wouldn’t end up alone.
“I think at this point of my life, I don’t need to be with a man. If I want to be with a man, it’s because I want to. At the end of the day, no man’s an island. You really need to be with someone for companionship. At the end of the day, you really have to be with your best friend,” she said.
“I don’t know if I want to get married again. I’ve left that in the hands of the Lord. All I know is, I’m not going to end up alone. For sure, I am not going to grow old alone. I know I’m going to have someone there that’s going to hold my hand until the end. I’m praying for it,” she added.
