Phillip Lazaro, seasoned stand-up comic, actor, and director, has passed away.
In a report by ABS-CBN News today, July 11, Phillip’s family, friends, and colleagues in the entertainment industry took to social media to pen their tributes to the “Unexpectedly Yours” actor.
His niece Armarie Saavedra Cruz-Go posted on Facebook, “Tito Phillip Lazaro, even though we know it is a part of life, we are never prepared to say goodbye forever. Our hearts are heavy today because we have lost someone so special, but we also celebrate your life. Rest in peace.”
Actress-comedian Tuesday Vargas also wrote in disbelief of Phillip’s passing on her Facebook page.
“Direk! Bakit mo naman kami iniwan agad? Gagawin pa natin itong ‘Baklakula’ na serye, ‘di ba? Sobra akong nabigla sa nabalitaan ko. Mami-miss kita, Mama Phi. Rest in power. I love you,” she penned.
On the same platform, set production designer Jay Custodio paid tribute to the late director: “It's a sad day today, one of the finest and kindest director that I've worked with just passed away. He is also one of the sweetest and supportive director! Praying for the repose of your soul Direk Phillip Lazaro! You will be missed!!!! Thanks for all the laughs and chikahan! Love u, Direk!!!”
Phillip turned 51 last June 12.
