OPM royalty Karylle is more than ready to take over the soundwaves this year with the release of her new indie single “Fine” — an upbeat song born out of calm and positivity in the thick of the pandemic.
The singer-songwriter and “It’s Showtime!” mainstay revealed that she began working on this project when collective anxiety spiked because of COVID-19.
“I started working on the song at the height of the pandemic, when I would go to work daily and there were no vaccines available to us yet,” she spoke of the song’s origins.
“During a ‘Showtime’ production number, my anxiety was pacified when I shared the backstage with Erik (Santos) and Nyoy (Volante), whose ‘can do’ attitude can put anybody at ease, most especially me. That particular moment made me realize that all of us in the show are facing the situation bravely,” she added.
Inspired by the calming demeanor of Erik, the “Prince of Pop,” and her desire to collaborate with him, Karylle started her self-composed song with the line: “I look at you and I know everything will be fine.”
The rest of the track, including the soothing line “just follow the beat of your heart, beat of the drums… ‘til everything is fine, fine, fine,” showcases Karylle’s ability to recalibrate feelings of unease into a message of hope.
You can stream “Fine” on all digital streaming platforms starting June 10!
