WATCH: Maris Racal explains why she was afraid of being seen with Rico Blanco in public

Maris Racal got real about her the fear she had on being seen with her boyfriend Rico Blanco in public the first time they went out on a date together.

In the actress’ vlog uploaded on Tuesday, June 21, the two talked about their firsts while eating street food at UP Diliman, giving a glimpse of how they started out as a couple.

Apparently, it all started in 2018 when Maris tweeted that she’s looking for a creativity partner who could share their insights about her music. The actress-singer said that she posted that on Twitter for Rico to see, in which he actually noticed.

The collaboration then happened months later, followed by their first movie date together — and the rest, as they say, is history.

When they officially became a couple, that’s when it became hard for Maris who was initially afraid to be seen in public Rico.

“Noong naging tayo, ‘di ba, hirap tayo mag-date kasi ayaw nating makita ng mga tao, kasi takot tayo baka ‘di nila tayo maintindihan,” she recalled, who revealed that their first date took place in Las Vegas, USA.

However, Rico was quick to clarify that it was only Maris who had that fear. “Bakit ‘tayo’? More ikaw. Hindi ako takot,” he said, to which Maris agreed.

The two also talked about their first fights and first songs they wrote about each other. For Maris, it was her single “‘Di Pakakawalan,” a song about their love story as a couple.

“Ni-describe ko sa lyrics nun how we met, how I felt noong una kitang na-meet. I remember telling you that and naiyak ka nga noon—nung sinabi kong, ‘Ito ‘yung story natin,'” she recalled.

While she was composing that song, Maris revealed that they also had their first fight since Rico was suggesting verses to the song, which the actress didn’t like.

In her defense, it was only because Rico didn’t know that time that the song was dedicated for him and their love story.

Talking about the first time they said “I love you” to each other, the Rivermaya frontman admitted it was him who said it first.

Maris admittedly got caught off guard by Rico then: “Sobrang biglaan. Sa isip ko, 'Wait, agad. 'I love you' agad? ‘Di pa nga ako nagpapakipot,’” she quipped.

“Ang bilis ng lahat. ‘Di ko na maalala. Parang pati ako nagulat sa sarili ko. Matagal ko na rin ‘di sinasabi yun,” said Rico.
