Words may not be enough to sum up Olivia M. Lamasan’s legacy in the film industry, but the master director appreciably expressed what she hoped that would be.
During the spotlight interview with her hosted on KTX last May 31, Direk Olive, or Inang as she is endearingly called, candidly shared that she had to look up the definition of the term legacy before answering.
“When you asked me about legacy, I looked it up, eh,” she revealed. “Sabi ko, ano bang ibig sabihin ng legacy? Among the definitions, ito ‘yung parang nag-resonate sa akin. So legacy is about the richness of an individual’s life, including what that person accomplished and the impact that he or she has on people.”
Going by that definition, Inang pointed to the quality of her work as the primary thing she’d love for people to remember her by.
“For most, it would be the work that I have done. Kasi ‘di ba others would say naman their work is a reflection of themselves. And I’m hoping that they would see that this work depicts the truth in life and reflects the characters’ joys, pains, and their journeys. Also that [my] work inspires people, touches hearts despite the challenges that we have in life,” she said.
Inang added that she hopes the extent of her legacy goes as far as making an impact on the people closest to her.
“For people who know me, people whom I work with, na mas kilala ako, pamilya ko, ‘yung legacy na sana maiwan ko sa kanila, sana they would remember me as someone who generously gave her knowledge, her time, her effort in guiding them in fulfilling their dreams as artists,” she shared.
