'Proud of my age!’ Sunshine Cruz says after being called ‘lola' by netizen

Sunshine Cruz once again proved her classy way of handling bashers, who, this time around, targeted her and her sister's looks and age.

In her Facebook page on April 5, the actress shared screenshots of her responses to netizens who called her “lola" and her sister Maritess Cruz a “tigulang," which means "old" in Cebuano.

As seen in the first screenshot, the netizen left a comment on her photo, writing, "Lola, 'yung buto mo ingat-ingat din baka mabalian ka."

Sunshine then calmly replied to the netizen, who seemed to be mocking her for her age. “Are you trying to insult me by calling me lola? Proud of my age! I am 44, healthy, and happy."

"Tbh, I’d rather be a lola than be you. Kumain ka para magkaroon ng nutrition ang katawan at pag-iisip mo. You look frail and hungry," she savagely added. "Take care and stay healthy.”

In another screenshot, the "Love Thy Woman" cast member defended her Marines from the "Tigulang na gyod" comment, saying that being a "tigulang" is actually a blessing.

"My sis is 54 and she obviously looks good for her age. Ageing happens to everyone po. Let’s not make it seem na ang pagtanda ay dapat ikalungkot at ikahiya. Blessing po ang mabigyan ng pagkakataong maging 'tigulang,'" she explained.

Sunshine also took the opportunity to educate her followers about the stigma on aging, and preached that being old is never a form of insult.

"Paalala lang po and to educate others sa maling pag-iisip about aging. Being a lola or having the privilege to age is a blessing denied to many. Huwag natin gawing ugali at gamitin ang salitang 'matanda' to hurt, insult, or describe a person negatively," she wrote in the caption.

"I am proud of my age. At 44, I am healthy and happy."

The mother of three concluded her post with another insightful message: "Ang mahalaga ay meron tayong pinagkatandaan. At higit sa lahat, wala po tayong tinatapakan at sinasaktan just because nadadagdagan ang ating edad. Stay safe and healthy everyone.”
