‘My brother, my hero’: Bea Rose Santiago gets kidney transplant after three years of dialysis

Beauty queen-actress Bea Rose Santiago successfully received a new kidney from her younger brother after years of suffering from chronic kidney disease.

On April 28, the “La Luna Sangre” actress took to Instagram to announce the good news that her three years of dialysis has finally come to an end, thanks to her brother’s kidney donation. She recently underwent a kidney transplant at the Toronto General Hospital in Canada.

“New kidney who this?” she wrote in the caption.

Bea expressed her gratitude not only to her brother but to everyone who has supported and prayed for her throughout her battle with kidney disease.

“Thank you to my baby brother’s love and bean I am changed. Thank you world for showing me kindness and patience and of course to my family, friends and strangers for your support, countless prayers and positive energy finally after the third time and three years of dialysis! I feel brand new!!! I feel loved and renewed! Thank you, thank you, thank you!” she posted.

In another Instagram post, the Miss International 2013 titleholder shared snaps of herself getting dialysis for the last time. She also gave a shoutout to the medical team who took good care of her.

“My last and first time dialyzing. Dialysis helped me stay clean for three years which initially saved my life. I thank Dr. Willem Johan Kolff, the father of Dialysis and of course our Renal rockstar my Dialysis doctor, Dr. Chan of Toronto General who pushed home hemo dialysis. My nurses, Elizabeth Wong and Eduardo Magtoto who tirelessly helped me for three years,” she wrote.

In true beauty queen fashion, she then proudly exclaimed, “Bea Rose Santiago, dialysis patient now transplant patient saying as long as we’re together, there will be hope!”

Stressing the significance of donating kidneys, she added the hashtags “Be A Donor”, Save Lives”, and “My Brother, My Hero” in her posts.
