Catriona Gray loved the fact that Pia Wurtzbach slammed accusations that they are at constant competition with each other as fellow Miss Universe titleholders.
In a report by PEP.ph, Catriona spoke up about the longstanding comparison which had been recently triggered by a netizen claiming that Pia’s “team” was responsible for pageant fans bashing the Miss Universe 2018 titleholder.
"I love that she spoke up about it because, honestly, there’s no issue between us as individuals or even between other queens,” she said. “It’s just really unfortunate that other people are craving issues and comparisons, and kind of putting us at war with each other when, in reality, there’s no such thing,”
Catriona continued to deny the “false narrative” that queens are in it to pull each other down instead of lift each other up.
“It would be nice for that kind of perception or conversations to end because we want to celebrate each other and we always celebrate each other. Maybe not in the most public of ways, but we're all communicating and supporting each other. It's unfortunate that there continues to be a false narrative of, ‘Oh, because she didn’t like this post or because she didn’t speak on this...’ Or because of whatever reason that’s created, there’s this perception or this story or this narrative that they created that pits us against each other. And it’s completely false,” she spoke on the matter.
"So I love that Pia did speak up on that but it’s just sad that she had to, you know, because it shouldn’t even be something that is being perpetuated within the community of pageantry or amongst empowered and successful women. Because all the queens the Philippines has ever created is being, you know, celebrated and experiencing successes in their own right. So we should continue celebrating that instead of finding reasons to pull them down or pit them against each other," she added.
Catriona then gave a message directly to the pageant community, particularly fans who enjoy fanning the flames of rivalry among beauty queens.
"I would encourage them to really ask themselves why they feel the need to continue fueling negatively positioned commentaries. Because I don’t think that’s what pageantry is about. Pageantry is about celebrating and lifting up each other. It has never been about, ‘How can I find the flaws in this person? How can I pull them down?’ It’s never been about that. Yes, it’s a competition, but the essence and the heart of pageantry is not about pitting women against each other. It’s about celebrating them," she addressed the fans.
