OPM vocal group The CompanY is finally back with a new album, five years since their last release.
Titled "Gitna," the multi-genre album is the group's first album under ABS-Star Music and their 29th album overall. It features 10 tracks that tackle different themes of love, which also highlights the members’ — Annie Quintos, OJ Mariano, Moy Ortiz, and Sweet Plantado — signature vocal harmony.
According to them, they personally chose "Gitna" as the title track of the album because of the unique love story matched by the perfectly written lyrics and beautiful melody.
"We decided to zoom in on this because it’s not the usual love story and the way it combines the lyrics and melody is different. Moy also had this idea to make it a duet so when he gave it to me and OJ, it brought a different color to the song," said Sweet.
Given their fresh, new take on this album, Moy said the challenge was the unpredictability of the compositions of the younger songwriters.
“The challenge was with the songs of the new generation songwriters, the way they compose music now is not so much formulaic—you can’t predict where the structure and melody of the song will go, and this is evident in ‘Gitna,’" he explained.
Apart from "Gitna," their album also includes previously released tracks, such as “Sumakabilang Puso,” “‘Sang Tawag Mo Lang,” “Disco Plantito, Disco Plantita,” and new ones like "Ambon," and "Sukob Na," among others.
You can now stream "Gitna" on various digital music platforms. A mini documentary is also available on YouTube for those who want to see the making of the album.
The music video of "Gitna" will also be released this Friday, March 25, so stay tuned on Star Music's YouTube channel!
