Gerald Anderson robbed by 'basag-kotse' gang, suspects surrender to police

Gerald Anderson fell victim to a robbery incident by a “basag-kotse” gang in Quezon City on January 31.

In a report by ABS-CBN News on February 14, CCTV footage revealed two men breaking into the actor’s parked SUV and stealing valuable items, including Gerald’s wallet, credit cards, passport and other identification, watches, jewelry, and gadgets.

At the time, the SUV was parked in front of “The Th3rd Floor,” a gym owned by Gerald located on Don A. Roces Avenue.

The suspects initially took off after smashing one of the vehicle’s windows, but came back to break another window after noticing that nobody came out of the establishment.

Gerald spoke of the incident, “Ang sama ng pakiramdam na 'yun eh, parang ‘yung information mo, ‘yung credit card, ‘yung ATM card mo, just like that nawala. It’s the worst. Ang sama ng feeling na ‘yun."

According to Niko Baua of ABS-CBN News, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was able to track an accomplice of the two suspects. The accomplice admitted to hacking Gerald’s email account and transferring 50,000 pesos from the actor’s crypto wallet to his GCash account.

The two suspects surrendered to the police afterwards.

One of the suspects said that they were not aware that the car was Gerald’s until they saw his ID in the stolen belongings.

Thankfully, Gerald was able to retrieve his bag, gadgets, and watches but not his wallet, passport, and IDs. He expressed his gratitude to the NBI for tracking the suspects.

From the incident, Gerald admittedly learned his lesson of not leaving valuable items in the car: "I want to make this an awareness para sa lahat ng tao na huwag talagang mag-iwan ng bag sa loob ng kotse nila.”
