Like other successful love teams in the movie industry, Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano are no strangers to the pressure coming from avid fans who hope for them to carry over their onscreen romance into the real world.
DonBelle, as they are fondly called by their fans, talked about how they handle such pressure during the grand mediacon of their upcoming romantic-comedy film “An Inconvenient Love” last Oct. 28.
Belle answered candidly, “I think both of us are very genuine naman with what we show. What you see is what we have on-and-off-cam.”
Meanwhile, Donny stressed that they are also focusing on “whatever they have” when the cameras aren’t rolling.
“We don’t really want to always think about what people think. It’s more of, whatever we have with each other as well,” he explained.
When asked if they are enjoying each other’s company at the moment, Donny responded, “Super enjoy po, super enjoy.”
Maxene Magalona, who plays Donny’s sister Viviana in the movie, attested to DonBelle’s offscreen chemistry.
“Marami na akong naka-love team and marami na rin akong nakitang love team around me, but this one is really different,” she said.
She added, “They are very professional. They are very laidback and very authentic. Walang katiting na yabang. Very true to themselves and very inspirational, kaya I’m very glad that Gen Z is looking up to this particular love team.”
Maxene gave a special shoutout to DonBelle’s Gen Z fans: “You chose a very good love team!”
As a beloved team of this generation, DonBelle expressed their gratitude for starring in Star Cinema’s comeback movie to theaters.
“We’re very grateful for this opportunity to star in this movie and it being the first one in a while again. Sobrang nakaka-humble po. I’m very proud of what we created because I know we gave it our best in this movie,” Belle said.
For his part, Donny admitted that the pressure can be overwhelming, but at the end of the day, he considers it a blessing to have worked with “an amazing cast and crew.”
“Minsan po, parang ayaw ko na lang isipin muna kasi nakaka-overwhelm na lahat ‘yun, first Star Cinema movie in a while. They’re giving us this amount of trust and they presented to us an amazing material which we have to showcase as well. If you just put all the things together that they blessed us with. Also, a great director, a great DOP (director of photography) in Noel Teehankee, an amazing crew, an amazing cast,” he explained.
Donny continued, “When you really think about all of it, there should be a lot of pressure talaga but really, right now, our focus is just to make people happy. If we’re able to do that — again, bring back people to the cinemas, go out and experience life again like before — then sobrang nakaka-proud talaga. It’s very much a blessing and we are grateful to Star Cinema and to ABS-CBN for giving us this opportunity.”
"An Inconvenient Love” also serves as the first-ever Star Cinema film helmed by Petersen Vargas.
Direk Petersen enthused, “Ang ganda nga rin pong isipin ‘yung 30th year ng Star Cinema, and parang new generation ‘yung binigyan ng trust ng management. Even sina Inang Olivia Lamasan, parang na-feel po namin na kumbaga hawak-kamay po kaming lahat doon sa pagtanaw ng new vision ng Star Cinema. Sobrang exciting po kasi parang ‘yung feeling ngayon na there’s something new coming up in what we’re gonna present in this film.”
Written by Enrico Santos and Daisy Cayanan, "An Inconvenient Love” will premiere in cinemas nationwide on Nov. 23!
