What do Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano, the stars of the upcoming film “An Inconvenient Love”, think about love? Do they personally consider it an inconvenience to achieving one’s dreams?
Donny, Belle, and their co-stars, along with director Petersen Vargas and screenwriter Daisy Cayanan, shared their candid thoughts on having to choose between love and career, during the movie's grand media launch last Oct. 28.
DonBelle, who just celebrated their third anniversary as a love team earlier this month, asserted that you don’t have to sacrifice your dreams for the sake of keeping love in your life.
“Hindi pwedeng magmahal ka and naiwan mo lahat ng pangarap mo,” Donny answered. “And [the] same goes for the other person as well. Kasi at the end of the day, malalaman mo sa sarili mo na parang may kulang.”
Donny explained that personally, he would let go of the person he loves to support their dreams: “Kung para sa ikabubuti niya at mahal mo siya, bakit hindi?”
“I mean, obviously, kung mahal mo siya, you’d want na after she finds herself, to go back to how it used to be. That’s what you can hope [for],” he explained.
Later on, he added, “Hindi naman kailangan pumili palagi, if life, love, career, ganun. Kung kaya mong pagsabayin lahat, then kaya.”
Belle expressed similar sentiments as Donny’s: “I don’t think you have to choose. I think you can live the best of both worlds. Kasi if a person truly loves you, they’ll allow you to grow and reach those dreams with you.”
“I think love and career, like what ate Maxene [Magalona] said earlier, can go hand in hand. You don’t have to choose one kasi I think it’s an old saying that you have to choose one. Pwede mo namang pagsabayin, ‘di ba?” Belle pointed out. “I think eventually, you’ll find that balance.”
Maxene, who plays Donny’s sister Viviana in the movie, described true love as something that “doesn’t stop you from going after your dreams.”
“True love supports. True love lets you be who you are and lets you go to become the best version of yourself,” she said.
Meanwhile, Daisy, who penned the screenplay of “An Inconvenient Love” with Enrico Santos, looked back on her personal experience in answering the love-or-career question.
“Ako po kasi talaga, pangarap, dati. Tapos eventually na-realize ko, nung iniisip ko na inconvenient ‘yung love, kailangan mo lang pala humanap ng tao na gagawing convenient ‘yun para sa ‘yo. And eventually, kahit inconvenient ‘yun, wala na kayong paki kasi ‘yun ‘yung nanalo,” the writer explained.
How does this duality of choice apply to Donny and Belle’s characters in the movie? They also perfectly summed this up during the mediacon
Belle described her character, Ayef, as “a girl who has big dreams but she sees love as an inconvenience para abutin ‘yung dreams niya.”
On the other hand, Donny said that Manny is “a plantito by morning, activist by night, but lover always.”
We can’t wait to know more about Manny, Ayef, and their unique love story! See you in cinemas this Nov. 23 for the premiere of “An Inconvenient Love”.
