When it comes to the topics of love, growth, and healing, actress Maxene Magalona is one to share inspiring insights based on her own life experiences.
That’s why when we got the chance to sit down with Maxene for the latest episode of Star Cinema Chat on Nov. 17, we were eager to know about what her character in the upcoming romantic-comedy film “An Inconvenient Love” would say about love.
Maxene reflected on the meaning of “true love” from the point of view of Viviana, the older sister of Donny Pangilinan’s character, Manny, in the movie.
“Si Viviana, naniniwala din ‘yan sa true love. And for me, for Maxene and Viviana, we believe that love knows no boundaries,” she asserted.
She explained, “There are healthy boundaries in every relationship but true love talaga, it just keeps giving [and] accepting. Hindi siya nagju-judge. Hindi siya ‘yung parang, ‘Love kita dahil ganito.’ Love is unconditional.”
Even though viewers have yet to watch the premiere to get to know Viviana more, Maxene already gave a glimpse of her character’s personality and perspective about love.
“Si Viviana, kahit na may pagka-feisty siya or loudspoken or whatever, deep inside of her, she really believes in true love,” she answered.
To add more insight to the subject of love, JC Alcantara, who plays Viviana and Manny’s brother, Dobs, shared his character’s unique approach to love as someone with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
“Si Dobs kasi, hindi niya ma-express ‘yung, ‘Gusto kita.’ Kasi sobrang poker-face niya. Pero mararamdaman mo na importante ka sa kanya ‘pag napansin ka na niya,” he said.
JC cited the dynamic between Dobs and Manny’s love interest Ayef, played by leading lady Belle Mariano, as an example.
“Kunwari, si Belle, hindi ko pa siya pinapansin sa una. Then ‘pag tumagal na, doon ko lang siya magugustuhan na ‘Ay, we’re best friends na.’ Ayun, pag naka-close mo siya, ‘Ay, love ko na rin ‘to.’” he explained.
Aside from JC and Maxene, members of Manny's family in the film also include Tirso Cruz III as his father, Lara Quigaman as his stepmom, and Teresa Loyzaga as his mother Meryl.
Directed by Petersen Vargas, and written by Enrico Santos and Daisy Cayanan, "An Inconvenient Love" follows the story of Ayef, a convenience store staffer who dreams of becoming an international animator, and Manny, a boutique plant shop owner by day and secret social activist by night.
Both believing that love is just another inconvenience, they agree to a contractual love with an expiration date. As the dreaded expiration date nears, will they end their contractual relationship or will love end their inconvenient beliefs?
Watch Manny and Ayef’s love story unfold exclusively in cinemas this Nov. 23!
