Sue Ramirez welcomes bashers of her mistress character in ‘The Broken Marriage Vow’

“Go guys! Sasali pa ako mambash.” That’s what Sue Ramirez has to say to the potential bashers of her character Lexy Lucero in “The Broken Marriage Vow.”

In a solo media conference held yesterday, January 12, Sue made it clear that she’s not scared of being bashed because of her character, the mistress of David Ilustre played by Zanjoe Marudo. The way Sue sees it, it’s a form of validation for her.

Admittedly, Sue is not as fearless when it comes to her face-off scenes with co-star Jodi Sta. Maria.

In one of the show’s highlights, Sue had to hit the back of Jodi’s head during a dinner scene, which was something Sue was very hesitant to do: “I was really scared. Ang liit kaya ng ulo ni ate Jodi.”

With the encouragement of Jodi, Sue was able to pull it off in the end. And it only took one take!

“I was really hesitant to do it. I wanted na i-jerk na lang… kaya naman siguro naming i-acting na lang ni ate Jodi eh. Pero she told me na, 'Sue gawin mo. Gawin mo talaga. Okay lang ako.' And then in-instruct pa niya ako kung saang part sa head na medyo hindi sensitive,” she recalled.

“Nakakaloka. Bawal nga masahiin ‘yung batok tapos mambabatok pa ako, ano ba yan,” she joked.

That confrontation scene is just a preview of what Sue had to learn to do as Lexy. On top of doing a “lot of research” to immerse herself in the role, Sue also watched similarly-themed movies and the remake’s original British series “Doctor Foster.”

She also consulted someone who has firsthand experience in being the “other woman” in a relationship.

“Meron akong kinilala from before, hindi ko na sasabihin kung sino, hindi niyo rin naman siya kilala, pero may experience siyang personal na ganito na naging other woman siya. So alam ko ‘yung kwento niya, alam ko ‘yung pinagdaanan niya, alam kung paano natapos ang lahat,” she shared.

Aside from her personal connection, Sue said she didn’t take direct inspiration from other known mistress characters in TV and film.

“Actually, wala po talaga kaming pineg dito,” she said.

She further explained why her character is an original take: “Nag-usap po kami ni Direk Connie (Macatuno) at ni Direk Andoy (Ranay), noong nagsa-start pa lang kami, may mga Zoom meetings kami na one-on-one with her (Direk Connie) para ma-explain niya rin. Of course it’s not only our take eh, it’s also the take of our director. ‘Yung pagbubuo po ng character, gusto namin talaga na iba. Ayaw namin na nakita na nila ‘to before, na may nakita na silang ganitong atake ng character before. Parang wala pa po.”

Get ready to watch Sue as Lexy Lucero on the premiere of "The Broken Marriage Vow" this January 24 on Kapamilya Primetime Bida at 8:45 PM!
