Angel Locsin, Edu Manzano to star in PH adaptation of 'Call My Agent'

Hit French show "Call My Agent" will soon have its Philippine adaptation, and it will star none other than Angel Locsin and Edu Manzano.

In a report by Variety published on January 11, the Philippine remake is said to start rolling sometime in April or May, and will be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Erik Matti. Dondon Monteverde will serve as the executive producer.

The eight-part series will be streamed on HBO Go as part of its drive "to create original content in Asia-Pacific," according to Variety.

Erik also made his official announcement on Wednesday, January 12. In a Facebook post, the acclaimed director shared how he always wanted to work on a project that tackles the industry he grew up in.

"When @dondonmonteverde and I were asked what we wanted to do for HBO, we, almost immediately at the same time, thought of remaking this show," he began.

"We have ever since wanted to do a film or series about the movie industry we grew old in."

Erik furthered how exciting it is to be doing a show that will uncover what goes on behind the scenes of the showbiz industry.

He said, "Showbiz stories for movies or tv are usually not bought by our local producers because they think no one wants to watch stories about what goes on behind-the-scenes of our industry. But it is so full of interesting and scandalous stories with such a diverse and colorful group of interesting people that would be great characters to immortalize in a show like this."

"Finally, we can do our tribute to a world where what goes on behind the glamour is as much or even more interesting than what we see in the movies," he added, as he expressed his excitement in doing the series.

No other details have been released yet about the series. Angel and Edu have also yet to speak about their inclusion in the project.

Aside from the Philippines, "Call My Agent" will also have adaptations in South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Poland, among others.
