Lovi Poe is set to fly to the U.S. soon to start filming for the upcoming Hollywood film “The Chelsea Cowboy”.
Just last August, the newest Kapamilya was announced as part of the Idris Elba-produced feature, where she will be playing the role of British blues singer Dana Gillespie.
The actress revealed how she got cast for the part during a press conference after signing a contract with ABS-CBN on Thursday, September 16.
“One of the producers and the writer of ‘The Chelsea Cowboy’ reached out to my management and asked me to read for the part. It was as simple as that. I read for the part, forgot about it, and a few weeks after, it happened.”
As part of her preparations, Lovi is doing lots of research on Dana to make sure she would portray her well on-screen.
“Aside from making sure I am fully aware of who I am playing, I will do my best na mabigyan ng hustisya because she’s an icon. Nagpre-prepare ako nang maayos.”
Lovi will also be working with a dialect coach, which she’s excited about.
“I will be playing [a role] with a different accent so that’s something I look forward to. Just trying to make sure that I get there prepared.”
She's working alongside Alex Pettyfer and Poppy Delevingne, and she takes it as an honor just to be a part of such an important production.
“Of course, me getting into this different playing field is already a huge thing. Just to be part of this movie is a real blessing for me.”
She added, “I believe ABS-CBN would be very much supportive of anyone who’s going to be able to pursue different careers abroad.”
For her first project with the Kapamilya network, Lovi will be starring in the Philippine adaptation of the Korean drama “Flower of Evil” with Piolo Pascual.
