KathNiels spotlight: How Kathryn and Daniel have inspired their fans to do good

It's easy to become a fan of an artist's work or looks when they are genuinely attractive and talented. Luckily, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla are both, and are good role models on top of that.

We're pretty sure this is something their fans, known as KathNiels, take pride in. Over the years, the two have led as good examples to their fans, not just in the name of love but also to do good to other people. Here are just some of the things KathNiel has done to inspire their fans:

They took a stand against cyberbullying

In 2017, Kathryn and Daniel joined the likes of One Direction, Little Mix, Nick Jonas, and Carly Rae Jepsen to take a stand against cyberbullying through the Cybersmile Foundation. Being victims of cyberbullying themselves, Kathryn and Daniel are all for peace and understanding while still being mindful of what we say about each other online.

"Grabe na rin kasi ‘yung comments ng tao, naaapektuhan tayo individually, so feeling namin siguro dapat may gumawa ng way to lessen or stop it… Akala natin maliit siya pero hindi natin alam ‘yung epekto nun sa tao. Kailangan maagapan," Kathryn said during the "La Luna Sangre" press conference in 2017.

Meanwhile, Daniel maintained that being bullied online doesn't give anyone a free pass to do the same.

“Hindi naman porket ni-bash kami, namura kami, kailangan naming balikan ng mura din. Hindi mo kailangang bumaba sa level na ‘yun. ‘Wag mo na patulan, hindi mo sila level… ‘Wag mong pansinin ‘yung papansin,” he said.

They encourage fans to pursue their passions

Remember the viral social media serye on Twitter "Along España" written by Gwy Saludes? Just like us, Kathryn enjoyed the whole series after her "The Hows of Us" co-star Juan Miguel Severo made her read it.

Through a video greeting, Kathryn told Gwy, "Naaliw ako doon, thank you! Thank you and excited na ako na mabasa pa ‘yung next na mangyayari, so good luck and galingan mo!”

Little did Kathryn know, these simple words of encouragement became a motivational push for Gwy to pursue her love for writing.

“Last month, I was questioning my capability to write. Kathryn’s video message motivated me to continue writing and exploring. Hindi niya siguro alam pero sobra-sobra ‘yung epekto niya sa akin kahit sa simpleng ganoon lang. I love her. Isa siya sa mga inspirasyon ko. Thank you so much kay Juan Miguel Severo. He really knows how to motivate a writer,” Gwy told Star Cinema in an exclusive interview.

They urge them to speak up

When ABS-CBN officially went off-air in May 2020, among those who spoke up for the network were Kathryn and Daniel. The actress stressed the importance of practicing this right as a citizen, especially for the youth, to speak up and stand for what you believe in.

"Nandito po kami kasi responsibilidad namin makaramdam, para maging boses ng mga taong hindi mapakinggan. Kasi kung hindi kami magsalita, sinong magsasalita para sa kanila?”

"Sa mga kabataan, sana huwag kayong matakot. Kasi kagaya niyo rin ako, natakot ako. Pero kung hindi kasi tayo magsasalita ngayon, sino? Tayo ‘yung magmamana ng Pilipinas, kaya may karapatan tayo,” Kathryn said in an Instagram post.

Echoing the sentiments of Kathryn, Daniel stressed in his own Instagram post, "Bilang Pilipino, tungkulin natin na maging mapagmatyag. Karapatan natin ang magsalita. Pero kasama ng karapatan na 'yan ay responsibilidad—responsibilidad na siguraduhin na ang sinasabi natin ay tama at higit sa lahat ay makatao para sa tao."

It is because of these statements that KathNiel became a subject of bashing by trolls, but their fans were quick to defend their idols. Knowing where they stand, KathNiels initiated the #WeBlockAsOne move on Twitter, which was supported by celebrities as well.

They are models for helping people in need

When a calamity arises, best bet that Kathryn and Daniel are there to help in the aftermath. The two have been present in various relief efforts, from the victims of typhoons to the Taal volcano eruption, they make sure to extend a hand to those in need.

This inspired KathNiels to do the same, as they have learned to give back especially in this time of crisis.

The fandom has initiated several efforts amid the pandemic, including giving food packs to the Manila Department of Social Welfare and organizing their own donation drives.

They inspire them to do good

Above all, if there's something Kathryn and Daniel would want their fans to become, it is for them to be genuinely good to other people. And seeing how their fans have stayed and grown with them for 10 years, it's safe to say it's a job well done for KathNiel.

“Tigilan natin ang paninisi, simulan natin sa sarili natin. ‘Yon lang. At nagsisimula ‘yon saan? Sa puso natin, guys. Pagmamahal lang 'yan. Tigilan natin ang hatred. Ano mang lahi, ano mang kulay—we’re all the same. Be good to one another. Mahalin natin ang isa’t isa. And let us enjoy living," Daniel said during his "D4: Daniel back at Araneta" concert.
