Angel Locsin and Neil Arce’s wedding is clear proof that what’s meant to be will happen.
The couple was met with a lot of bumps on the road before finally getting to tie the knot. But at the end of the day, their love still found a way and prevailed among all else.
In a recent vlog on their YouTube channel, Angel revealed that after getting engaged they flew to Italy as she was invited to be a guest on a special episode of “ASAP Natin ‘To” in November 2019. And on the plane, something happened that gave both of them a big scare.
“Nung pumunta kami sa Italy for ‘ASAP’, habang kausap ko yung mga artista sa eroplano, napansin ko nawawala yung singsing ko,” Angel shared.
But thank heavens they found the ring and to keep it from happening it again, they decided to get a mock ring, that looks “almost identical” as the one she got from Neil, to wear all the time.
When the pandemic hit, their plans were halted. Suddenly, their loved ones were likely to miss their big day.
“Hindi siya natuloy because pandemic happened. Hindi pa tayo sigurado. First, wala pang vaccine nung panahon na ‘yun. Ang tatay ko senior citizen na hindi pwede lumabas. Ang anak ni Neil ay minor. ‘Yun yung mga taong gusto namin kapiling namin kung ikakasal kami,” the Kapamilya star explained in an interview on “Rated Korina”.
Even their scheduled trip to Finland for their prenup was cancelled. “We were supposed to go to Finland for our prenup. Pero dahil nga na-declare na mag-ECQ tayo, nung first ECQ pa, kailangan namin i-consider yung safety ng lahat and kung makakabalik ba kami ng Pilipinas. Baka mag-stay tayo doon, tapos hindi natin alam kung kailan tayo babalik, so na-cancel.”
Recently, Angel and Neil decided to just have the prenup shoot in Spain, but then NCR was placed on another ECQ and the threat of COVID-19 intensified due to the Delta variant.
“Then ito, bago rin tayo mag-declare ng third ECQ din, paalis din kami dapat for Spain naman for pre-nup namin. Kaya lang, hindi rin natuloy kasi nagka-Delta variant,” she added.
Despite their original ideas not pushing through, the award-winning actress still found reasons to feel joy.
“Yung mga travels lang yung nahirapan. Actually for me, mas nakatulong kasi nagkaroon kami ng time to prepare. Naayos namin yung bahay na lilipatan namin. Nagkaroon ako ng maraming time with my family, siya rin sa pamilya niya. Nasulit naman namin yung mga panahon na hindi pa kami kinakasal,” she said.
The two got married before NCR was placed on ECQ on August 6. It was a civil ceremony attended only by very few selected people.
Angel described their wedding “very intimate, very simple, very us.” And even though it was not the big event they had in mind, it brought their relationship to the next level just the same.
Neil shared, “Nung sinabi po na, ‘You’re now man and wife,’ the reality will hit you. Ako kasi, na-feel ko noon excitement, eh. 'Okay, it’s the start of a new life with Angel’, gano’n yung feeling.”
They told host Korina Sanchez that they still want to hold a bigger wedding, where they would recite the vows they’ve prepared.
“Hindi pa namin binibitawan yung vows namin. Simple vows lang muna na, ‘till death do us part.’ Mga ganun lang muna. Pero yung personal vows, doon sa main wedding po namin, sa Christian wedding,” said Neil.
