Imagine this: "Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo" but set in 2021, where life mostly revolves on social media and couples now have a very different mindset.
This is what the 2006 rom-com stars Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo were asked to do during the pre-show of the digitally restored "Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo" premiere last July 15. The two stars also shared how their characters can serve as reflections of real life married couples.
Ryan said, "Malinaw pa rin naman, may picture pa rin naman of what they could be like. They are not lost sa utak ko kasi 'yung journey nila, if you ask me, it's something our marriage...sa 12 years namin, we would relate to Jed and Angie's characters. Hindi eksakto 'yung nangyayari pero 'yung pinagdadaanan namin parang, 'Ah, very 'Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo' ang tema nito.'"
"Distinct yung pananaw nila. Parang ka-edad namin 'yung couple ngayon and nakikita naman sila sa ibang couples ngayon that are in their 40s na may kids at a particular age. Si Rafa, malaki na ngayon," he added.
Agreeing with her husband, Judy Ann also thinks the movie would still be as funny as it was back in 2006, and that a whole lot more couples would relate to them now.
"Siguro mas marami pang makaka-relate ngayon lalo pa sa couples na kagaya namin kasi everybody's into social media na ngayon. Ano ba 'yung ginamit ni ganito, ano ba 'yung ginamit ni ganyan. Parang in real life, may mga ganyan din kami na 'Ay parang may ganyan tayong naganap noong isang linggo. It's very relatable," Judy Ann said.
"Napaka-relatable ng mga nangyayari and masaya naman ang may pamilya. Masaya naman ang may mga anak, may mga issues kayo na at some point pagtatawanan niyo na lang. Angie and Jed are real persons. Totoong tao sila na nagkaroon ng totoong issues. Hindi sila pelikula with Direk Joey (Javier Reyes) and nagkataong kami ang gumanap."
But more than reimagining the film, they also discussed the possibility of having a last movie to close Jed and Angie's story.
Direk Joey, who was also present during the pre-show, then revealed that he has already come up with a story and title for a possible final sequel.
"I already know what to do with the third part. Dream project to end the trilogy. I already have the title. In the end, I really want it to be bittersweet. I really want it to be sad and happy because it's about children taking care of their parents," he said.
Asked whether the couple is willing to portray their characters again for the possible sequel, both answered with a resounding "yes."
