John Lloyd Cruz admits he wasn’t ready to be a dad

John Lloyd Cruz admitted that when he was not ready when he became a father to his son Elias.

In an in interview with Karen Davila on a new podcast, the actor thought that he was at first, but then he realized that he really wasn’t.

“Tingin ko isang bagay siya na akala mo ready ka because you wanted it. We like to believe na we are in control. We like that idea na ‘Hindi, it’s my plan. Plinano ko iyan.’ It took me a while para matanggap na akala mo ginusto mo, akala mo plinano mo but in reality, especially ngayon after tatlong taon, iba eh. Hindi eh,” he shared.

Besides, John Lloyd thinks that no matter how long a person prepares to become a parent, nothing will ever get you ready enough for when a child comes into your life.

“And it won’t be as humbling kung ‘Talaga, naplano mo? Paano mong naplano 'yung ganung bagay?’ Kasi it’s beyond words. Describing being a father, especially nung lumabas siya, there’s no way na merong tao na naplano 'yung ganung ka-weird and ka-radical na bagay. That’s a life. Buhay 'yung lumabas because of your responsibility,” he continued.

It wasn’t the responsibilities of being dad that made the “One More Chance” star anxious, it was more of not foreseeing how much it would actually require of him.

“I didn’t get scared [of the responsibilities] at all. I was scared to admit na parang medyo it’s a little bit too much than what I expected. But I think that’s the whole essence of it,” he explained.

Later, John Lloyd referred to Elias as one of the main reasons he decided to step out of hiatus from the entertainment industry.

“Well, don’t get me wrong, ha? Wala namang masama to desire kumita especially ‘pag may lumakaki kang bata. And more than that, gusto ko makita ako ng anak ko na nagtatrabaho. Malaking parte ‘yun ng desisyon ko,” he revealed.

Then he added he also wants to experience what it’s like to connect with the audience after being gone for a quite a while.

“Hindi ko alam kung ano ang lamang kasi ‘di ba it’s always a composition. And gusto kong malaman kung ano ‘yung ngayon. ‘Yung kung paano makipag-diskurso ngayon sa sarili mong audience,” said John Lloyd.
