Time to rejoice, KathNiel fans! Daniel Padilla just confirmed that he and on-and-off screen partner Kathryn Bernardo are starring in a teleserye, plus a movie together!
The Kapamilya star shared in an interview on Boy Abunda’s “The Purple Chair” series that their TV comeback is happening ahead of their film.
“Serye muna kami,” he revealed. “May meeting kami very soon for a movie.”
Daniel also spoke about “After Forever”, the film he was supposed to do with Kathryn and director Cathy Garcia-Molina before the pandemic hit.
“The last movie na dapat gagawin namin ni Kathryn, hindi natuloy. Biglang nagka-pandemic, bawal nang bumiyahe. The story was based para talaga sa America. Kung hindi mo siya gagawin doon, hindi puwede,” he said
The actor was then asked about Carlo Francisco Manatad’s “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon (Whether the Weather is Fine)”, which he stars in with Rans Rifol and THE Charo Santos-Concio.
Set against the backdrop of Typhoon Yolanda, it tells the story of Norma (Charo) and her son Miguel (Daniel) as they struggle for survival and deal with the absurdity of fate, sustained by the hope that they carry, and what is lost and gained.
Explaining what inspired Carlo to do the film, Daniel shared, “Kaya rin siya na-inspire na buoin itong ‘Whether the Weather is Fine,’ kasi talagang sinugod ‘yung Tacloban after the storm surge. Nakita niya talaga lahat ng nangyari.”
He then teased how the film differs from all the projects he has done. “I’m very excited because it’s different from the movies that I make. Kasi, ‘di ba, siyempre, galing kaming Star Cinema with the romcoms, the dramas. Ito, ibang-iba ‘yung atake ng film. Iba ‘yung feel,” said Daniel.
“Kun Maupay Man It Panahon (Whether the Weather is Fine)” is premiering at 74th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland this August. It will also have a North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) under the Contemporary World Cinema programme in September.
