Vice Ganda's explanation of gender identity and the use of pronouns on "It's Showtime" from last May has gone viral after it was posted on Twitter.
User @graphicals shared the clip on the social platform yesterday, July 2, and it showed Vice saying he identifies as non-binary.
"Pag tinawag mo akong ‘ma’am,’ hindi ako mao-offend. Pag tinawag mo akong ‘sir,’ hindi rin ako mao-offend. Hindi ko nire-recognize ang sarili ko– either. Non-binary ang gender ko,” he said.
He furthered that it's fine with him whenever he's tagged as "he" or "she" in articles, but maintained that everyone should practice asking people what their preferred pronouns are.
"Hindi ako mao-offend kung gamitan niyo ako ng 'he' or 'she,' pero ako 'yun. May mga tao na definite sila kung anong pronoun ang gusto nilang gamitin sa kanila, kaya it's better that you ask. Not everyone is identifying themselves as part of the binary gender," he explained.
