‘Kun Maupay Man It Panahon’ to have North American preem at Toronto film fest

Carlo Francisco Manatad’s much-anticipated film "Kun Maupay Man It Panahon" (Whether The Weather Is Fine) is having its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) under the Contemporary World Cinema programme from September 9 to 18.

Along with this announcement, the film’s official poster was unveiled.

Starring Daniel Padilla, Rans Rifol, and Charo Santos-Concio, “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon” will have its world premiere at the 74th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland from August 4 to 14. It is also among the three winners of the Torino Film Lab’s Audience Design Fund this year.

Set against the backdrop of Typhoon Yolanda, the film tells the story of Norma (Charo) and her son Miguel (Daniel) as they struggle for survival and deal with the absurdity of fate, sustained by the hope that they carry, and what is lost and gained.

Rans plays the character of Andrea, who “becomes Miguel's guiding light as they traverse and prepare to flee the wreck they once called home.”

“Kun Maupay Man It Panahon” is written by Giancarlo Abrahan V, Carlo Francisco Manatad, and Jérémie Dubois. It is also a joint production of Black Sheep, iWant, Quantum Films, Dreamscape Entertainment, Globe Studios, together with Cinematografica, Plan C, House on Fire (France), AAND (Singapore), and KawanKawan (Indonesia).

It was developed at the La Fabrique des Cinema du Monde (Cannes), TorinoFilmLab Europe and Semaine dela Critique’s Next Step (France) and is supported by the TorinoFilmLab Co-Production Award (Creative Europe), Aide Aux Cinema du Monde of CNC and Institut Francais (France), Film Development Council of the Philippines, and the World Cinema Fund (Germany).

The film’s international rights has been picked up by Beijing-based sales agent Rediance.
