After Hidilyn Diaz conquered the weightlifting competition and earned the Philippines’ first-ever gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the first thing she did was… conquer the athletes’ food hall.
In her newest vlog, the Pinay history-maker shared her first meal after her victory: a slice of pizza.
But since she’s where she is, Hidilyn started craving for some Japanese food.
“Nandito tayo sa Japan! Ano’ng kakainin ko kung 'di Japanese food? Matagal-tagal ko din ‘tong hindi nakain. Lord, thank you. Kakain na ‘ko ng Japanese cuisine!” she said in the vid.
She went over the caterers to find ramen, cucumber and tuna sushi, and some udon.
Sitting next to her as she enjoyed her meal was her conditioning coach and boyfriend Julius Naranjo.
Hidilyn asked for a reaction on her win and he said, “I believed it. The moment you stood it up, I knew you were gonna jerk it.”
Speaking to the camera, the Olympic champion revealed her plans of making a book about her journey.
“Gagawa kami ng libro, Team HD — the dream team, after ko manalo to give inspiration sa mga bata, sa mga officials, and everyone in the Philippines. Para malaman nila ano ba’ng mindset ng isang Olympic champion? Sana bibili kayo ‘pag may libro na,” she said.
Hidilyn continued, “Last time na-frustrated ako, sabi nila, ‘Alam mo, masyadong mataas ang standards mo.’ Ganun talaga, kaya ka nga Olympian, eh.”
She also took the time to thank everyone who have been showing her support. “I just want to say thank you everyone and take care always.”
