Ate Shawee, Sharon Cuneta's impersonator, passes away at 45

Marvin Martinez, better known as Ate Shawee, the impersonator of Sharon Cuneta, has passed away. He was 45.

The late stand-up comedian's niece Rafaela de Jesus confirmed the news to PEP yesterday, July 26. It was reported that Ate Shawee died due to liver cirrhosis at the Chinese General Hospital at around 1PM on Monday.

Ate Shawee’s talent manager Freddie Bautista posted a tribute on his Facebook following the sad news as he thanked him for the memories they shared together.

"Maraming maraming salamat sa raket, bonding, at magagandang samahan. Ate Shawee, mami-miss ka namin. Gone to soon. I am shocked right now. 😢🙏" he wrote.

Meanwhile, the bereaved family are asking for financial help due to the unsettled hospital bills of the comedian. According to the family, the impersonator already lost all of his savings throughout his battle with the disease.

In a Facebook post early this July, Ate Shawee also called for donations when his condition got worse. “Hindi na pala ako gagaling. Lumabas man, babalik ulit ospital. Walang-wala na ako, umaasa na lang ako [sa] mga [nagbibigay] tulong sa akin," he wrote.

May your soul rest in peace, Ate Shawee.
