Former Philippine president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III has passed away on Thursday, June 24. He was 61 years old.
The news was said to be confirmed by a family member who asked not to be named until the official announcement arrives.
He served as the head of state from June 2010 to 2016. During his term, he was referred to by many as PNoy.
Since he stepped down from office, PNoy stayed out of the public eye. He had been battling various illnesses and recently undergone a heart operation, according to Rappler.
In 2004, he became Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and was elected as senator in 2007.
