We love Jolina Magdangal, Melai Cantiveros, and Karla Estrada as the fun, witty hosts of "Magandang Buhay," and we'll soon love them as Jolene, Mylene, and Karlene in "Momshies! Ang Soul Mo'y Akin," but there are far bigger roles they take in real-life — as mothers.
And in celebration of Mother's Day this Sunday, we're putting the spotlight to this trio who are not just amazing hosts but also admirable mothers:
Momshie Jolina has been married to Rivermaya drummer Mark Escueta since 2011, but it was only in 2014 when the two became parents to their son Pele Iñigo. Four years later, they were blessed with a daughter named Vika Anaya.
In an interview with Philippine Star, the '90s icon opened up about her busy life as a mom, and she said she always makes sure she attends to the needs of her kids once she's done with her "Magandang Buhay" stint.
With Pele now on homeschooling, Jolina said she is now hands-on more than ever in teaching her son.
“May times na busy sa 'Magandang Buhay' pero 'pag walang taping, usually dito lang ako sa bahay with my family," she began. "May mga nagbago sa'min, tulad ng anak ko na nag-homeschool. We decided to do homeschooling kasi mas naging priority namin ang safety niya, and we want to experience 'yung pagiging hands-on din sa school niya."
Acknowledging how hard it is to juggle work and being a mother, she said, "Masarap ang pakiramdam dahil anak namin 'yung tinuturuan namin at rewarding ang feeling 'pag natututo at malaki ang development.”
Momshie Melai has been married to her fellow "Pinoy Big Brother Double Up" alum Jason Francisco for seven years now. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter they named Amelia "Mela" Lucille, who recently marked her 7th birthday last April.
The two also have a younger daughter named Stela who just turned four last April.
Ever since, Melai has been a supportive mom to her kids, but it was only during the quarantine that she had the chance to dedicate most of her time to them. According to Melai, the greatest lesson she learned as a mom is how much their kids value the time they spend together.
“Ang natutunan ko, lalo na sa asawa ko rin at kay Mela… Kasi noong February pa lang, noong naglinis ako dito na ECQ na, paglinis ko nakita ko 'yung diary ni Mela, may pa-diary na siya. Ang nakalagay is, 'I am happy'. Nasa Instagram ko 'yun — 'I am happy because Mama is here.'," she revealed in an interview with ABS-CBN Lifestyle.
"So na-realize ko na, 'Hala, ang saya pala nila 'pag nandito ako. Hindi mababayaran 'yung saya nila, hindi matutumbasan ng toys, halaga, basta nandito ako," she said.
At 19, Momshie Karla already became a mom to Daniel Padilla. She also has another son named Jose Carlito, and two daughters Margaret and Carmela.
And while she seems to have her life easy, it was actually the opposite because it was admittedly hard for her to raise four kids on her own.
In an interview back in 2017, the singer-host candidly talked about her life as a single mom. According to her, she is not the strict type, and she loves instilling life lessons to her kids to guide them.
But above all, she never faked herself in front of her kids and would be honest as much as possible to them.
"Sanayin mo iyong mga anak mo na kahit masakit man, sabihin mo iyong totoo. ...Maging totoo tayo sa mga anak natin," she said.
Catch this riot trio in "Momshies! Ang Soul Mo'y Akin" this May 28 on KTX.ph, iWant TFC, TFC IPTV, Cignal PPV, and Sky Cable PPV.
