Despite having their differences in the past, Sunshine Dizon still gave her ex-husband Timothy Tan props for keeping up with his responsibilities to their children, Doreen and Antonio.
“Siguro what I can say na lang is I'm very thankful that he does what he has to do. He does his responsibilities and obligations well. My kids are happy na may daddy pa rin sila,” the actress shared in an interview with Cinema One.
She may be single now, but Sunshine does not want to brand herself as a single parent as she and Timothy raise their children together.
“I don't want to claim that title na single parent ako. Nakakahiya dun sa mga totoong single parent. Mag-isa lang silang kumikilos at gumagawa ng lahat ng paraan para sa mga anak nila. Ang set up ko is co-parenting.” She added, “Somehow, I'm still blessed.”
In 2016, Sunshine alleged Timothy of having an extra-marital affair and filed cases against him. But a year later, she withdrew the charges and decided to be civil with each other.
Sunshine looked back on this in the interview and suggested that parents who are currently going through the same ordeal should always consider what’s best for their kids.
“May pagkakamali along the way. Nagkataon lang na hindi ako ‘yung tipo na will just say it's okay and move on from that. Siguro, ultimately dahil iba-iba tayo ng sitwasyon at kaso, isipin muna natin ang mga anak natin kung mayroon tayo. Ano ang kailangan nila, ano ang dapat para sa kanila?” she said.
She continued, “Kailangan ma-balance ‘yun ng tama. Ngayon katulad ko na puwede pa naman or co-parenting, go for it. At least may semblance ‘yung mga bata ng buong pamilya.”
But if a couple’s relationship is beyond repair, then Sunshine thinks it’s best to stop forcing to make it work. “Dapat unahin mo na maging masaya ang puso mo at may peace ang pag-iisip mo. Kung may anak ka, mafe-feel din nila 'yan.”
For her, it is wise to learn how to accept the circumstances and forgive. “What I learned in life is acceptance is the key, acceptance, and forgiveness. Not only the person who wronged you, but forgiveness for yourself,” said Sunshine.
She will be starring in “Marry Me, Marry You”, her first project with the Kapamilya network, with Janine Guiterrez, Paulo Avelino, and Jake Ejercito.
