After numerous public scandals, a brief stint in jail, and seven times in rehab, Baron Geisler believes he is a better version of himself now that he has found his “truth.”
Baron, who last appeared in the primetime series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” has been living a quiet life in Cebu for three years with his wife Jamie and their daughter Talitha Cumi.
“That’s where I found God, or I can say that’s where God found me. Doon din nag-mature, nag-progress ‘yung pagbabago,” he said in an episode of Toni Gonzaga’s vlog called “The Demons Baron Battled.”
Since taking a break from the limelight, the actor has become a devoted Christian after finding his “faith family” whom he said made him realize that he was not living the ideal life before.
“My faith family, they made me realize. I wasn’t living. If I was living, I was living in hell. True life is with God,” he said.
Baron went to rehab in Cebu multiple times for his alcoholism. That was also where he met his wife, who was his psychologist at that time.
His life in rehab was not easy, Baron shared, recalling how the staff of the facility stripped him of his big “rock star” ego. This made him realize a lot of things about himself.
Baron shared that his parents were disciplinarians that’s why when he had the chance to get away from home and live a celebrity life, he quickly embraced it and “let loose.”
“Lumaki ulo ko, parang I felt untouchable. By doing that, I was hurting myself. I thought I was cool. I thought I was the man,” the actor admitted.
In rehab, Baron realized that he was no different from the other suffering alcoholics. By experiencing that, the actor said, he was able to embrace humility.
“When one is humbled down, there begins the spiritual awakening and the willingness to change. It took away the self-entitlement,” he said.
The actor describes the “new Baron” as “humble, lovable, and God-fearing," a long way from the “old Baron” who was “proud and lazy.”
Baron considers this moment in his life as a “rebirth,” not only for him but also for his family. His daughter also inspires him to be a better person every day.
“I want when she has her own thinking na, when she clicks Google when she finds me on the internet hindi na Baron brawling or Baron gets drunk at the bar,” he said.
Asked about doubters of his new faith, Baron said he is ready for it.
“I do not have to answer to anyone, except my God because only him and I have a relationship, and this relationship is a very special one. Nobody can take that away from me.
Right now, Baron said what is clear to him is that his purpose is to serve his family and to be a blessing to others. His dream is to remain stable and to maintain his relationship with God.
