You could take one good look at Rabiya Mateo and think she’s got it all. But just like the rest of us, she has her own insecurities. While she can easily hide them from everyone, she has decided to flaunt and embrace who she really is.
On her Instagram page, our Miss Universe-Philippines 2021 shared her thoughts and how she achieved this mindset. She wrote, “I live in a cruel industry. I’m always compared to different girls. People have always something to say like, ‘You’re not beautiful enough. You’re so thin. I don’t like what you wear.’”
She realized she’s more than just the flaws these people use against her, so she’s choosing to celebrate what really matters instead.
The 24-year-old continued, “But then life is never superficial. It’s not always what’s attractive to our eyes, but it’s the love we choose to build, the connection we make to people, and how we want to celebrate ourselves!”
To prove that, she posted a video of her bare-faced self, stripped off of all the glitz and glamour from being a beauty queen.
“This is the real me. No make up. No heavy hair extensions. Nothing fancy to wear. Just me. Even in my simplest form, I know in my heart I am nothing less than phenomenal,” Rabiya added.
Rabiya is now in Florida, USA for the Miss Universe Pageant happening on May 16 (May 17 in Manila). You can watch it on the Kapamilya Channel and A2Z at 8:00am.
