Nicole Scherzinger shared her feelings after finding out that “Pangako” singer Regine Velasquez and composer Ogie Alcasid liked her rendition of the song.

In an interview with MJ Felipe for “TV Patrol”, The Pussycat Dolls’ lead vocalist revealed that she is a huge fan of the Asia’s Songbird.

“I’m such a huge fan of [Regine]. When I listen to her music and her voice, I’m like, ‘What else is there for me to do?’ So that really means a lot coming from her because I have so much love and respect for her,” said Nicole.

Her cover is part of the album titled “Kaibigan” by Filipino-American producer Troy Laureta. When she was asked to get on board, Nicole shared that she jumped to it right away.

“When Troy called me, he put on some weird spa music in the background. I don’t know if the universe was aligning or he was getting a foot rub or what was going on. I was taking a trip to the nature store and he left me this hour-long message. I was like, ‘Get to it! What’s going on back there?’ And then when he asked me, I was like, ‘Are you kidding me? It’s an honor,’” she said.

Nicole, who’s part Filipino, is not fluent in the language, but said that growing up speaking in Hawaiian and learning Spanish helped her a lot to sing “Pangako”.

“When you want to do something to your best ability and do it justice, it’s hard because you want it to sound like it’s second nature. But I know that it’s in my blood.”

The Pussycat Dolls was supposed to hold a concert in Manila last year as part of their world tour, but got postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nicole, however, promised that she will go back to the Philippines and is excited for it.

“I can’t wait. I miss it. I’m so blessed. What I love more than anything is being on that stage and singing as Filipinos love to do. It’s like where we feel at home. As soon as the world opens up and everything is safe again, I cannot wait to go and put on the best show of my life. And I cannot wait to actually go and do more work for the children on the streets there,” said Nicole.
