Back in 2014, after two years of being single, Zsa Zsa Padilla was asked by her close friend Sharon Cuneta if she was ready to date. She didn’t see any reason not to, so she agreed to be set up on a blind date with one of Sharon’s friends, architect Conrad Onglao.
“Sabi [ni Sharon], ‘Zsing, are you ready to date?’ Sabi ko, ‘I’m trying,’” the Divine Diva shared on “I Feel U” last Sunday, February 28. “Dating lang! Kaya lang, knowing me, ‘yung kina-date ko nung first date, ‘yun na ‘yon!”
After calling off their first engagement in 2016 and getting back together the same year, Zsa Zsa and Conrad got engaged again and are now happily working on their very own farm/rest house, Casa Esparanza.
The “Madrasta” actress admitted that farming has not been easy for her, but she does enjoy doing something she has never tried before.
“Actually stressed pa ‘ko. Nate-tense ako kasi hindi ko nga alam kung magiging successful ako sa field na ‘to kasi hindi siya madali. Napakahirap niya,” she said.
Her new hobby requires a lot from her, but her love and passion keep her from giving up on it.
“Kahit ninenerbyos ako, siyempre may self-doubt ka pa, lalo na sa akin, kasi inexperienced ako. Siguro bigyan mo lang ‘yung sarili mo ng room for trial and error. You have to be forgiving.”
Zsa Zsa believes her 38 years in showbiz helped her have the discipline and the push to chase after her goals. “That trained us for life. Feeling ko hindi ako titigil hanggat ‘di ako maging successful.”
Aside from Casa Esparanza, she also does “ASAP Natin ‘To” every Sunday — the only work she does in the entertainment industry now since she has decided to take a break from acting.
She said that it was a personal request from Conrad and they didn’t want to be away from each other too long, as filming sets now are usually “locked in” as a COVID-19 protocol.
“Kahit naman kami hindi young love, kailangan pa rin namin makita ‘yung isa’t isa. You just need to feel your companion is right beside you. So ngayon, medyo hindi muna ako gagawa,” she explained.
But Zsa Zsa went on to say she and Conrad don’t spend all their time together either to keep a little “drama” in their relationship.
“Now, it’s more of a partnership that we have. We really rely on each other. Minsan maganda rin ‘yung nami-miss ‘yung isa’t isa, hindi ba? Kailangan pa rin ng konting drama na ganyan sa isang relasyon. Pero hindi na kami young love, sweet love. So right now what we have is stable, so I just enjoy it.”
Before Conrad came into Zsa Zsa’s life, she was the long-time partner of Comedy King Dolphy until his death in 2012. They have two daughters together, Zia and Nicole.
