We rarely get to hear Julia Montes open up about her personal life, but for the vlog of her close friend Dimples Romana, she let us in on a very interesting side of her.
While bonding over self-cooked street food, the two actresses chatted about their past and got to talking how Julia became a breadwinner at such an early age.
She shared that after seeing her potential as a child, her grandmother sat her down to tell her honestly that they needed her to take on opportunities in showbiz.
“Open talaga si Lola before. ‘Uy, ‘pag hindi mo ‘to ginawa, wala tayong pambayad nito.’ Kasi before sobrang mahiyain ako,” said Julia.
Starting young taught Julia important life lessons, most especially, the value of money.
The “24/7” star added that the COVID-19 pandemic has reminded her of this as well, making her realize that every centavo she earns shouldn’t go to waste.
Julia, however, admitted that she knows how to treat herself after all the hard work she does. And if there’s anything she likes splurging on, it’s perfumes.
She revealed that when she was young, she used to buy a 20-peso sacheted perfume that smells like baby powder to keep up with her classmates’ more expensive scents.
After the huge success of her first major teleserye “Mara Clara”, which also starred Dimples and Kathryn Bernardo, she finally got the chance to buy the perfumes she always wanted.
Her collection grew since then and she even confessed being into men’s perfume for a while.
Dimples then told Julia that she doesn’t look like the type who’s into such things, since she has become known as a down-to-earth, low-maintenance kind of girl.
Her former co-star sang more praises for Julia, saying that she is one of the most talented actresses of her generation, and also the kindest and most generous.
Dimples said Julia would give so much to other people, even more so to her own family. Like that time she gave her biological father a watch when they first met.
Julia explained that she decided to give him one to remind him that their time away from each other doesn’t matter anymore and what’s important is the time they’ve shared.
“Feeling ko wala kaming time together. So parang gusto ko maging memorable, na every time makikita niya ‘yung watch na ako ‘yung nagbigay, maaalala niya na hindi ko iindahin ‘yung past na wala kami together. ‘Yung time, starting now na na-meet ko siya, ‘yun ‘yung nagma-matter more than ‘yung past,” she said.
