Joshua Garcia speaks up for the first time about the viral "Paubaya" music video where he and his ex Julia Barretto starred.
Speaking with Kim Chiu and Enchong Dee during their spiels on “ASAP Natin To” yesterday, February 21, the actor shared how he said yes to do the MV opposite his former reel-and-real life partner.
According to Joshua, his friendship both with Moira Dela Torre and her husband Jason Hernandez was the main factor he said yes.
"'Yung friendship namin nila Moi, nila Kuya Jason, and Julia...'yun yung isa sa nagpa-oo talaga sa akin. Seryoso, totoo 'yun,” he said.
“Si Moi yung nag-ask sa akin, eh. Sabi niya, ‘Okay ka ba to do this 'Paubaya'?’ Napakinggan ko yung kanta. Sabi ko, ‘Ang ganda nito, ah. Parang saktong-sakto masyado sa amin,’” he said in reference to what he and Julia went through in real life.
Joshua also didn't have any qualms about working with Julia, and even shared how excited he was to do the shoot.
Ka-message ko nga si Kuya Jason before the shoot," he said. "Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Bro, sigurado ako exciting itong mangyayari.’ Kasi parang doon na lang kami ulit nagsama-sama ulit. Last project naming ginawa na magkakasama is ‘Love You to the Stars and Back,’ yung ‘Torete’ ni Moi."
Joshua then shared that the heartbreaking dialogue at the end of the video was a collaboration among the four of them.
“Kami 'yung gumawa apat. Siyempre may guide kung hanggang saan lang kayo. Pero 'yung sasabihin as an actor, kung saan ka komportable siyempre, kung saan mo mararamdaman,” he said.
The music video, which now has over 18 million views as of writing, marked the last chapter of Moira's "Patawad" era.
