Actress-singer Maris Racal recently added Disney recording artist to her impressive resume, and it’s apparently because of the full support of her boyfriend musician Rico Blanco.
In a report by PUSH, Maris revealed that it was Rico who pushed her to record the Filipino version of the Disney princess anthem “Starting Now.”
"Yes, super excited siya rito. Actually, he was the one who broke the news to me na ako 'yung kakanta for Disney. Kasi siyempre siya po 'yung manager ng label [ko], so siya po 'yung kinontact. He just really said na, 'Oh my god, kunin mo na 'to. Ayusin mo 'yung schedule mo para ma-fit 'to.' He's been very, very supportive," she shared.
Last November 5, Disney Studios Philippines dropped the official music video of Maris’ performance of “Simulan,” the Filipino rendition of “Starting Now,” which was originally performed by Grammy Award-winning singer Brandy.
The track is a part of Disney’s Ultimate Princess Celebration program, a year-long initiative that aims to “spotlight the courage and kindness Disney heroines inspire in fans around the world.”
The “Asa Naman” singer also said in an interview with Star Magic Inside News that this opportunity came as a shock to her:
"Hindi po ako makapaniwala. Talagang as in sobrang, 'Talaga ba? Ako?' 'Yon 'yung reaction ko. 'Yon 'yung exact reaction ko. 'Seryoso ba?'” Maris recalled.
“Parang medyo na-pressure nga ako mag-yes pero like nag-yes talaga ako kasi it's such a huge opportunity at dream ko talaga sila maka-work,” she added.
