LINEUP: QCinema to stage a hybrid film fest for 2021 edition

We’ve held our breaths for far too long but the wait sure is worth it as QCinema International Film Festival is finally returning to the big screen for its 2021 edition!

From November 26 to December 5, QCinema will stage a hybrid film festival combining in-person screenings at Gateway Cineplex 10 and online streaming via KTX.ph. With its timely theme “Jumpstart,” QCinema is set to screen an exciting roster of local and international films in celebration of cinema’s “great rebound.” In fact, it will be the first film festival to be held locally since the reopening of cinemas.

In a press conference held on Tuesday, November 16, festival director Ed Lejano described this year’s edition of QCinema as a “booster shot” for the festival experience. After a significantly long hiatus, moviegoers might have higher expectations of their film festival experience, to which Ed said that they are taking “modest steps” to meet those expectations.

“With higher expectations, we also have our modest steps in jump-starting the theatrical experience once again after two years. QCinema this year is like a booster shot for the festival experience, after all matagal tayong nawala,” he explained.

He continued, “QCinema is like a thirst trap for our festival followers, so we try to come up with a program that has both components, online and theatrical, in Gateway and KTX, and they’re both priced the same way.”

For this hybrid edition, the team behind QCinema is eager to welcome both first-time festival goers and long-time patrons in theaters and online screenings.

“QCinema is here to give you a festival right in the comfort of your homes or in the comfort of Gateway cinemas so these two options are there for you,” Ed said of the festival.

“We’re starting modestly because before we used to have many venues all over NCR but baby steps tayo ngayon, we’re just limiting it in Gateway and KTX, one theater at a time but sometime during the middle of the festival we will move to two theaters while we have a different slate of films for streaming,” he added.
