Many of us know her as “Fan Girl,” but make no mistake, Charlie Dizon is the girl who has now garnered a massive fanbase of her own.
Being one of this generation’s most bankable young stars, Charlie is proof that it takes perseverance and relentless passion to see the fruit of one’s labor. Prior to her breakthrough success in “Fan Girl,” Charlie steadily held onto her craft by auditioning for years until she was able to nab minor film roles then bigger acting stints later on. In fact, being the go-getter that she is, Charlie almost became a K-Pop trainee!
Now that the Kapamilya actress has made a name for herself, it’s exciting to look back on how she steadily climbed the showbiz ladder!
K-Pop trainee opportunity
Before entering the local showbiz scene, Charlie once tried her luck at an audition held by a South Korean entertainment agency.
When Charlie chose to pursue a career in the entertainment industry over her studies in University of Sto. Tomas, her parents initially disapproved of it. But out of thousands of auditionees, she was chosen to be a trainee! She got to train alongside Nancy McDonie, who is now a K-Pop idol. Unfortunately, her training was discontinued because of issues with her visa. She came back to the Philippines and resumed her studies in De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
Finally Found Someone; Loving in Tandem; Seven Sundays (2017)
Charlie made her acting debut in the 2017 rom-com “Finally Found Someone,” which set her up to land more minor roles in that same year. She made an appearance in “Loving in Tandem,” top-billed by Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber, then in the family drama “Seven Sundays” directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina.
Sin Island; Bagani (2018)
2018 saw the shift of Charlie from using her real name (April Rose) to her stage name. Prior to being credited under Charlie Dizon, she appeared in a supporting role in the erotic thriller “Sin Island” in February of that year.
In March, Star Magic introduced Charlie as part of the 2018 Star Magic Circle. From there, she made her TV debut as Marikit in the LizQuen-starrer “Bagani.”
Parasite Island; Maalaala Mo Kaya (2019)
Early in 2019, Charlie starred alongside Jameson Blake in “Planner,” the Valentine’s Day episode of anthology series “Maalaala Mo Kaya.” From there, her career continued to gain traction as she secured a permanent role in the fantasy-drama series “Parasite Island.”
A Soldier's Heart, Fan Girl, Four Sisters Before the Wedding (2020)
2020 is inarguably the biggest year in Charlie’s career (yet.) She kicked off the year with a stint in the action-drama series “A Soldier's Heart.” Then she went on to achieve a milestone in her career when she starred as Jane in the award-winning film “Fan Girl” for which she won Best Actress in the 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival.
Later that year, she played a younger version of the iconic role of Teddie Salazar in “Four Sisters Before the Wedding,” the prequel to the 2013 family-drama “Four Sisters and a Wedding.”
Viral Scandal; My Sunset Girl; Zack Tabudlo’s Hindi Ko Kaya (2021)
This year, Charlie continues to make waves in the industry and capture the hearts of Filipino viewers. For her first lead role in a TV series, Charlie will be starring alongside Joshua Garcia in “Viral Scandal.”
If that isn’t enough to satiate audiences’ cravings for more of Charlie on our screens, she will also be starring in the iWantTFC original series “My Sunset Girl” together with Jameson Blake.
And in case you missed it, Charlie and her “Fan Girl” co-star Paulo Avelino reprised their team-up in Zack Tabudlo’s “Hindi Ko Kaya” music video!
