Nowadays, people take to social media to defend their celebrity idols from other netizens’ bashing. But back in the day, rival fandoms would resort to physical battles against each other. Case in point: Vilmanians vs. Noranians.
In Luis Manzano’s Youtube vlog uploaded yesterday, November 9, Vilma Santos openly spoke about the “war” between her fans and Nora Aunor’s fans, which often included physical conflict.
After Luis pointed out that fans of this generation are more likely to confront each other on social media, that wasn’t the case during the peak of his mom's stardom.
“Nung time niyo ni Ate Guy, talagang ‘pag nagkaka-engkwentro ‘yung dalawang grupong fans, sakitan talaga ‘yun ‘di ba?” prompted Luis.
The veteran actress recalled a particular moment when she herself was struck with a safety pin during a premiere night.
Another event that hasn’t escaped Ate Vi’s memory was when she and Ate Guy witnessed fans getting physical and throwing chairs at each other during a special night of honoring their work in showbiz.
“At tsaka kinokoronahan kaming dalawa sa Araneta Coliseum, from the stage nakikita namin sa baba ‘yung mga fans, naghahampasan, nagbabatuhan ng silya,” she shared.
While Ate Vi and Ate Guy share a close friendship now, the Star of All Seasons admitted that, at some point, they allowed their fandoms’ rivalry to affect their own relationship.
“May time, naapektuhan kaming dalawa… because of the rivalry. And then tuloy ‘pag magka-eksena na kaming dalawa, pati pagtitinginan namin parang awkward,” Ate Vi spoke of the awkward phase.
“Umabot kami sa ganun, until I think if I’m not mistaken, her dad ba, or mom passed away, dumalaw ako. Since then, we became close,” she added.
