Why Bimby easily approved of mom Kris Aquino saying 'yes' to Mel Sarmiento

Kris Aquino didn't have a hard time getting her stamp of approval from son Bimby on saying "yes" to former Interior Secretary Mel Sarmiento.

Days after the Queen of All Media announced her engagement, she then took to Instagram on Wednesday, October 27, to thank everyone who extended their love and joy for them.

"We want to just say, thank you very much. We were touched with the overwhelming kindness and the happiness that you have shown that we are happy. Thank you," Kris said.

Mel, on the other hand, also thanked everyone while keeping it short yet sweet: “Salamat sa lahat ng bumati sa amin."

In the same video, Kris also had a heart-to-heart talk with Bimby asking why he easily gave his "blessing" to them.

"It’s because he loves you. No agenda at all," he said. "And you can really tell that he wants to take care of you, me, and Kuya (Josh). And basically, I can tell whenever he looks at you, his eyes twinkle. Basta you can feel he genuinely loves you, Mom."

According to Kris, she wouldn't have said "yes" if her sons didn't approve of Mel.

On Sunday, October 24, Kris surprised everyone with her announcement that she's engaged to the former DILG secretary.

In the now-viral post, Kris said it was her late brother, former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, who became their "matchmaker."

She also said that Mel, whom she also considers her best friend, came "in God's perfect time."

Mel was the third and final DILG secretary under Noynoy's term, replacing Mar Roxas after he decided to focus on his presidential campaign.

He was also a three-term Mayor and two-term Congressman in Calbayog City, Samar before he became a DILG secretary, according to Kris' post.

Meanwhile, Kris was formerly married to basketball star James Yap; they tied the knot in 2005. The two later on separated in 2010, and their marriage was nullified in 2012.
