In her vow to keep things private in her life, Kris Aquino had the most subtle announcement of her engagement to former Interior Secretary Mel Sarmiento.
In an Instagram post she made on Sunday, October 24, the Queen of all Media shared a clip of her with the former DILG secretary, seemingly trying to share something to the viewers.
While the two failed to say what they wanted to share with Mel saying he's not "pang-showbiz," Kris simply just attached photos of bouquets of flowers and balloons with an "I ❤ U" design. What seemed to be a jewelry box can also be seen in the photos.
Kris then tried to share things point by point in her lengthy caption, beginning it with how she has been lately.
"We discussed this post and I thought about it carefully… marami kasi sa followers ko ang nagtatanong kung kamusta na ko because matagal na kong nawala… aamin ako i’m only 95 pounds now. This pandemic and many stressful events that happened since mid August really caused my weight to drop & my health to suffer."
Noting the death of her brother, former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, four months ago, she added, "Sure ako, ayaw nya talagang iwanan si “bunso” na walang magbabantay at magaalaga na siguradong pinagkakatiwalaan nya."
Calling the late Noynoy as their matchmaker, she said, "Somehow I believe there really was a matchmaker in heaven who must be smiling now - I can almost hear his voice telling me, ''Kristina, tama na, respect the fact na gusto ni Mel ng tahimik na buhay.” And finally, “bunso” has learned to obey."
Kris then finally hinted saying "yes" to Mel, whom she also considers her best friend.
"To my best friend and the man I said yes to spending the rest of my life with, thank you for as Bimb said, loving me for me, with no agenda, and for being just an overall good and patient man. It’s unreal how much more calm & peaceful I feel now that you’re here," she revealed.
"We would never have met nor reconnected had it not been for Noy. Thank you to my kuya, kahit wala na siya ramdam na ramdam ko na kahit ilang beses kaming nagkatampuhan, kahit kailan gagawa talaga sya ng paraan na ma-assure kami nila kuya josh at Bimb kung gaano niya kami kamahal at hindi talaga siya papayag na ma feel namin na kami ay mapapabayaan. We love you and we miss you."
The actress-host then further thanked her brother as well as Mel who came into her life in the "perfect time."
She said, "But THANK YOU, you must have known how broken i’d be to lose you, so you made sure there was someone who not only helped wipe away my tears, he’s made it possible for me to smile and laugh again. Dumating nung hindi ko hinahanap o inaasahan- kaya nga tama silang lahat na nagsabi in God’s perfect time."
With both of them agreeing to keep personal things private, Kris said she couldn't share anything more except for this one thing: "As much as I am proud to be an Aquino, looking forward na 'kong maging Sarmiento."
Several friends from showbiz extended their love and congratulatory messages to Kris in the comments section of her post.
Among them were Angel Locsin, Anne Curtis, Kim Chiu, Bea Alonzo, Jinkee Pacquiao, Moira Dela Torre, Darla Sauler, Neri Naig, Mariel Rodriguez, Angeline Quinto, Ogie Alcasid, and Carmina Villaroel, among others.
Mel was the third and final DILG secretary under Noynoy's term, replacing Mar Roxas after he decided to focus on his presidential campaign.
Meanwhile, Kris was formerly married to basketball star James Yap; they tied the knot in 2005. The two later on separated in 2010, and their marriage was nullified in 2012.
