"Hello Stranger: The Movie" is breaking the norm as it becomes ABS-CBN Films' first-ever Valentine's Boys' Love (BL) movie offering this 2021.
During the film's bloggers conference today, January 27, Black Sheep head Kriz Gazmen said that the movie is a huge move for the production company since they get to show their message to the BL community.
"Malaking bagay talaga for us na BL movie 'yung napili ng ABS-CBN Films na maging offering. There's a huge part of the audience na BL community and it's sort of our love letter to them na parang Valentine's Day is also for you. Parang ganoon po yung feeling namin dito," he explained.
"Sinasabi ko nga kay Inang (Olivia Lamasan) na it's such an honor na maging Valentine's presentation 'to kasi 'yung mga Valentine's offering namin is parating KathNiel, LizQuen, and then all of a sudden na-shake ang mundo for 2021," he added.
Agreeing with Kriz, ABS-CBN Films' Managing Director Olivia Lamasan believes that the BL film is actually for everyone to see.
"Why not? When you watch it, hindi lang siya para sa BL community, it cuts across. Ako, series pa lang... it's for everybody," she said.
Inang also recalled her experience upon watching Tony Labrusca and JC Alcantara for the first time. According to her, the last time she felt that kind of kilig was during John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo's "A Very Special Love" days.
"Noong pinapanood ko siya sabi ko, 'My God Gazmen, bakit ako sigaw nang sigaw? Kilig na kilig ako!'" she exclaimed.
"Sabi ko nga sa kanila, 'Anak, it's been a long time since kinilig ako nang ganoon.' Alam mo 'yung kilig na naiirit? Ganoon. Sabi ko ang tagal na na naramdaman ko 'yan. Na-miss ko pala ang kilig nang ganoon. Na-miss ko pala ang kilig na naramdaman ko sa John Lloyd-Sarah. It's the kind."
"I'm speaking with all honesty na 'yun talaga ang naramdaman ko," she added.
Inang also said that she's glad that the series actually transcends all communities—it's not only for the LGBT community.
"I speak as a woman, I speak as a girl, na even in the series, hindi lang BL community ang nanood. There was a big number of women who followed and who got entertained and who fell in love with 'Hello Stranger'. And that's exactly what we wanted the film to be," she enthused.
Helmed by Dwein Baltazar, “Hello Stranger: The Movie” is premiering this February 12 on KTX.ph, iWantTFC, TFC On Demand, Cignal PPV, and Sky PPV. It is distributed by CineXpress.
